A recent article in the Kansas City Star, Kansascity.com, written by master gardener Jim Braswell touts the value of adding compost to the soil. Jim explains that compost is partly decomposed organic matter and is created by soil inhabiting micro-organisms that break down plant tissue and turn it into a rich humus. Jim also states that compost improves the physical structure of the soil. Soils like clay and sand really benefit from the use of compost.
